exoticdvm: Sadly, have to give this one the axe. No time for cache maintenance these days as life evolves and other priorities have jumped up the ladder. Thank you to all those who have helped to keep this find alive for many years. Cache on!

This cache can be found in the Bear Cut Preserve located in Crandon Park on Key Biscayne. It is a NANO. Please don't drop it below the boardwalk! There is a $8 admission fee to enter Crandon Park if you enter by car. Enter for free if you come via the bike or walking path! Park hours are 8 a.m. to sunset.

DO NOT WANDER OFF THE BOARDWALK INTO THE PROTECTED AREA. IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO FIND THIS CACHE.

Enjoy an AMAZING scenic overlook - one of the best in Miami. Key Biscayne's "Petrified Forest."

Bear Cut Preserve is home to a unique geological feature - the fossilized remains of a black mangrove forest approximately 6,000 years old. This mangrove "reef" was formed by the gradual replacement of the woody root tissue by calcium carbonate suspended in the seawater. The fossilized mangrove reef and surrounding tidal flats provide habitat for a wide variety of marine creatures, including conchs, whelks, starfish, and various sea urchins.
