Geocache Description:

Cache near the Tellico Plains-Robbinsville Rd (now called the Cherohala Skyway) placed to the south of it's name's sake

I have always been intrigued by topo maps and places that have unusual names with neat stories behind them, and this is one of those places. This cache is named for an area just to the north of the cache called "Jeffrey Hell" but more commonly known as "Jeffrey's Hell". The stories that I have heard about this place speak of a man named Jeffrey who was (some say coon hunting) hunting in this area when his dog got lost. He supposedly set out to go find his dog but never returned. Heck, there is even a bluegrass song about this place and the story behind it. I have no way of verifying the story, but I have heard the same story from different sources all of my life. Anyway, I have no affiliation with the singing group, but here is a link to their webpage which has a portion of their song on it.

I never was a Bluegrass person myself, but I have to admit these guys are good. I even went to hear them play at the Palace Theater in Maryville, TN and they sang this song at my request and another friend's request. Keith, in the band, wrote this song and sings it too. Thanks for writing an interesting song with a story and awesome pickin too, hehe.

Pretty neat stuff. This cache is located up near the Skyway and is not in the "hell" itself, but there is very rugged terrain to be had down in that "hell" if you want to go hike around and this cache might eventually get moved down in the hell eventually if it's not found at this easier spot frequently. At time of hide the cache included a Travel Bug with attached toy tractor, a log, a pen, a little canned grub, some rubber washers for a garden hose, some pull ties, and that's all that I can remember. Let me know what you think of the camo job I did on the cache. Got the ammo box all old and rusty and I treated it with Ospho (rust killer) and many coats of paint, then gave it the camo treatment hoping it would not stand out too bad even when hidden in a relatively open space. Have fun hunting it down. Its definately hidden in God's country. For those of you that are Amateur Radio operators, like myself, if you have the opportunity please put a QSL card or business card in the cache and don't forget to "hilltop" and do some VHFing while on top of the mountain. I sometimes monitor the 147.180+ with pl of 118.8Hz if you have a chance to get on. Good luck to hams and non-hams alike.....NE4ME
