Geocache Description:

This Earth Cache is located just off US 460 at the Cedar Bluff Overlook Park

Approximately 600 million years ago shallow inland seas existed in, what is now, the Cedar Bluff area. Over geologic time these shallow seas accumulated sediments, which formed rocks exposed in the cut today. These beds were miles away, but during the continental collision 250 million years ago, they were thrust northwest and on to younger rockbeds. As geologic time slowly passed, limestones were exposed at the surface through erosion, folding and faulting. During the later portion of the 20th century, construction of the U.S. Highway 460 from east to west beginning at the traffic light for the first Cedar Bluff exit, three distinct rocks can be identified.
