Witness: Katherine Kerr, 2000
Five water-cut stainless steel manhole covers with electro-cut centers and sandblasted outer rings have replaced city covers. The images and texts on these covers represents themes of salmon, forests, railway and shipping industries and consciousness. (Note: at present you will find only three covers on display, with two of those near the cache. The Salmon cover used to be across St Georges Ave at LGH but was removed and put into storage during renovations. The Forest cover was stored away during the construction that is just winding up. We are trying to get these inactive covers out of storage and back on view in an appropriate location soon)
NEW!! As of October 25, 2019 there is a new art piece that has been added toward the south across the plaza.
Strength & Remembrance: Sinàmkin Jody Broomfield, 2019
The pole is topped with the figure of a woman who represents all those who never came home. She is wrapped in a blanket to symbolize the love and care those gathered still feel for her and she stands atop an eagle, which has carried her home, with courage, to the creator. She's in a good state of mind. She's resting peacefully. It's everybody's responsibility to look after this beautiful spirit.
If there are a lot of muggles lurking close by, you can sit and enjoy the pool area, or you can wander down to the Library Plaza to seek out more art pieces. Take some photos, post your comments and don't forget to tell me what you think is your favourite piece in this geocache location. The nice folks who work in the building immediately to the east of GZ are aware the cache is here, as do most of the regular visitors. The container is a magnetic key hider.
As always have a great Geocache time and I hope you have a chance to visit the other public art locations around the North Shore.
