The cache located at the site of the abandoned Nassua Scout Camp. There are parking co-ord's below leaving you at the beginning of a converted rails-to-trails path.
The cache is a black 35mm film canister containing a log book and a small pencil.
The cache lies a short walk off the main trail and takes you into a forgotten Scout camp to Promise Rock . I only remember parts of the story, but before my time the camp was used by Peterborough area Scout groups. I don't remember the particular event, but thousands of Scouts had gathered here. Each scout was to have signed a printed copy of the Scout promise which was sealed in a vault and then buried at the foot of the stone. As well, each scout was to bring a stone about the size of one's hand that were used to create the cobbles around the Promise Rock.
Some of the cobbles are still visible around the base of the rock, but the plaque marking the location of the vault has been smashed. The fate of the vault is unknown to me.
Along the path you may have noticed the ruinous foundation of what I remember being told was the kitchen and dining hall. I can also remember my Scout leaders telling us about a teepee that stood towards the SW corner of the clearing.
If anyone knows more of the story, or some of the many missing details please feel free to add them in the logs.
