Detta är den första cachen i min serie om svenska järnvägsstationer.
Denna gång skall vi besöka sveriges andra största stad Göteborg
I mitten av 1800-talet började man anlägga järnvägar i Sverige och en av de första sträckorna var Göteborg - Jonsered som invigdes den 1 december 1856, varför behovet av ett stationshus uppstod.
Göteborgs centralstation har byggts om ett antal gånger sedan invigningen den 4 oktober 1858. I den ursprungliga stationen, ritad av arkitekten Adolf Wilhelm Edelsvärd, fanns en banhall som tågen stannade i. På 1920-talet byggdes den om till en vänthall. Tidigare fanns det även ett lokstall vid stationen, detta är numera borta och lokstationen ligger istället i Sävenäs. Under 1800-talet passerade över en miljon svenskar byggnaden på sin väg till hamnen och Amerika.
Stationen är byggd på resterna av bastionen Johannes Rex, ett utanverk till den tidigare stadsmuren.
