Geocache Description:

The Mounts Mega Mill Series

The Spinning Mill

The South Australian Worsted Mill better known as the Spinning or Woollen Mills was one of the districts most valuable industries, converting wool into yarn.As the building was being built The Premier of South Australia , the Hon. John Gunn laid a foundation stone on June 20, 1924 near the new entrance to the building. The company commenced operations in December 1925 and ran through to the early nineties. In 1929 a spinning and weaving plant was added to the exsting wollen and worsted manufacturing plant and in 1932 the mill was sold and extensive alterations were made by the new proprietors.

The mill is no longer used for manufacturing but was until recently used as a bulk warehouse for commercial goods.Once again it is up for sale, so who knows what the future holds for this old building..

The cache is hidden inside a container which doesnt need to be removed from its surroundings , take some time to check how the cache is hidden and then return to the same way

We hope you enjoy the history of this mill in Mount Gambier and hope you enjoy the rest of the series
