Geocache Description:

The difficulty of two is only because of the high Muggle traffic. You will understand when you get there.

Wetumpka History Alphabets – “J”

J is for Jail, and this was certainly substandard by comparison to today’s department of corrections facilities. You’re at Wetumpka’s first Jail, the “Calaboose”. This structure was built in the early 1800’s, with prison labor, and was Wetumpka’s first and only jail for three decades. With four very small windows for light and one locked door for entry and exit, there wasn’t much to do for those who were kept here, except think about why they were here.

In the 1830’s a “nicer” facility was built to house the City’s prisoners, again with convict labor. It was slightly larger, in a different location and contained more than the one room that you see here. Later, this structure was used for various things including as a storage room for City equipment.

It currently stands empty and is on the Chamber of Commerce’s walking tour of Wetumpka. Please place the cache back as you found it. You will be in a high muggle area. There is a Golden George waiting for the FTF

FTF - Thomasl714! Found on the night of the AGA Dinner River Region.
