The Huia area has always been a place of abundant seafood and
from this place comes this tale of Maori history before the arrival
of the European.
This story revolves around two lovers from rival Maori tribes
who fell in love, overcame the odds, and we hope lived happily ever
after. The story of how this happened is told in mosaic pattern
close to the above picture and explains the traditional name for
this area.
