Geocache Description:

A short walk across the historic Greenham Common. Easy parking and access.

This cache has been planted by the 4th Newbury Cub Pack as part of our project on Geocaching. It is placed near the 6 old bunkers (silos) on Greenham Common, now on the list of Britain's historic monuments. RAF Greenham Common was abandoned many years ago and the site has been returned to common land. It is quiet atmospheric walking alongside the now disused bunkers, thinking about the scary weapons that used to lie within. There were 96 nuclear missiles kept here until the USA handed the common back to the RAF in 1992. You can see and find out more about the history of bunkers and what they were used for at: (visit link)
We think you can even buy your own bunker for £1… but you have to maintain it too!

The cache is a small box – with a Cub-Scout theme when it was placed. Feel free to trade items - especially of a scouting or cub theme. Its near a popular walk so take care to hide it well.
