Geocache Description:

MARY S. YOUNG STATE RECREATION AREA
A View to the Other Side

Mary S. Young State Park is owned by Oregon State Parks, but operated through a cooperative agreement with the City of West Linn. Under state administration, geocaching was not allowed in this park, but the Parks Director for the City of West Linn graciously allows geocaching in all of their parks. So the cooperative agreement opens the way for caching in Mary S. Young again. Located between Highway 43 and the Willamette River, Mary S. Young is a fantastic park with ~8 miles of hiking and biking trails, a large open leash-free dog area, soccer fields, and several nice beaches along the river.

This is a three-part multicache.  All three locations are within the park; no need to get back in the car between start and finish. The round-trip hike for this cache is about 1.5 miles. NOTE: No multiplication is required for the math below.

Near the parking lot, you will find a large sign. Looking at the construction of the sign, you can identify the following:

A = number of 4" by 6" boards
B = number of 6" by 6" boards on ONE side
C = number of 2" by 4" boards
D = number of bolts holding the two signs to the sign

Location number two can be found at:

N 45º AA . (C-1)(C-C)(C-1)
W 122º B(C-B) . (C/2)(A/2)(D/3)

At the second location, you will find a nice bench and a nicer view.  Look through the trees to the right and you'll be looking towards my first cache, Meldrum Bar.  On the rock wall, a plaque tells a little about Mrs. Young and the the origin of this park.  The date that this plaque was posted is WXYZ.

The final coordinates of the cache can be found at:

N 45º  (W+W)(W+W) . X(W+Y)W
W 122º  Z(X-W) . W(W+Z+W)(Z-W)

The trails are fairly simple, but if you're interested, the City of West Linn provides several options for trail maps. As with many caches in Oregon's forests, GPS reception may not be great.
