North Merrick Dairy Traditional Cache

Located in North Merrick just off Meadowbrook Road. Park at south end of Brookside School as William Street now has a fence. Area could use some TLC.
There were three dairies located in North Merrick until the 1920's. Foley's Dairy Farm was on Whale Neck Road, Bedell's Dairy was on Camp and Meadowbrook and Feldstein's Dairy was on William and Meadowbrook. Most of the small dairy farms were forced out of business when NY State passed a law requiring pasteurization. This proved to be too expensive for them.
This cache is dedicated to my Grandfather, who came over on the boat with members of the Renken family and wound up working in Renken's Dairy. This was located at the corner of Classon and Myrtle Avenues in Brooklyn. While it was closed in 1962, the building still stands and is being proposed for landmark status. I visited it once when I was very small. I still remember the clinking of the one quart glass bottles that were delivered by the Renken Milkman.
Cache is a small Lock 'N Lock containing a collection of cows and a small, red barn (which some might feel looks like a hotel). Signal Pin for FTF.
