This cache is a camo-taped plastic container placed around Grand Lake St. Marys. Thought this area could use a few family friendly caches. Walking is on either grass or hard packed dirt paths with a little bushwacking at the cache site.
A little Grand Lake St. Marys history.
In 1837, work was started on a feeder reservoir to maintain the Miami-Erie canals 5ft water depth. The 13,500 acre lake was dug by workers using hand tools earning 35 cents a day. When completed in 1845, Grand Lake was the largest man-made lake in the world.
In 1949, Grand Lake St. Marys and other Miami-Erie canal feeder lakes were dedicated as Ohio State Parks, making this large lake one of Ohio's oldest state parks.
