Geocache Description:

This cache should be a quick find for everyone. I never knew that this cemetery was here until a week ago when I happened to stumble on it. Its really got a nice view. So I did my insta-cache thing and threw out a decon container with a log. A brief history is below. I found one grave of a PVT killed in the Blackhawk war. Have fun!

The La Platte Cemetery was established in the mid 1860's in an area that was settled very early in Nebraska Territorial days. I have not located the original deed. The cemetery is in the Northeast Quarter of Sec 27, Twp 13, Range 13 directly west of the town of La Platte and is located on the top of the hill on the west side of US Highway 75 at the end of Cemetery Road. It is well cared for and still in use.
At the south end of the cemetery is a stone marker engraved: "This tablet has been ereted to the memory of Lulu and Charles McDaniel who so thoughtfully donated one acre of land to the south of this spot to the cemetery, in memory of the McDaniel family. 1964." There are no burials yet in this addition to the cemetery.

Gary Iske, Sarpy County Genealogical Society, 1995.
