“Toss in ball #1…… Toss in ball #2…...”
When spoken in a low voice with a slight drawl the phrase above is a familiar sound to visitors of America’s Fair. As fairgoers walk the fairgrounds enjoying scrumptious food, entertaining exhibits and pleasing music it’s not unusual to hear the above phrases followed by an excited “I got it!” Stools are full of eager players at the game with the little, red, bouncy balls. As you toss in each ball you hope for five in a row. After you hear “I got it!” there is a collective sigh, as the rest of the players have to test their luck again.
Previously called the Erie County Fair, America’s Fair has been held in this Hamburg location since 1868. The first fair held at this location was one day long on 12 acres of land. Currently, fairgoers are treated to 11 days of fair fun on 265 acres of land. In 1970, the fair was the largest county fair in the country and as of 2007 it is the third largest county fair.
This location is also home to the Buffalo Raceway and Fairgrounds Gaming. Additionally, the Agri-Center building on the fairground hosts multiple events year round.
So, go out and find the cache so you can have the thrill of shouting, “I got it!”
Historical details taken from www.americas-fair.org.
Update: The name of the fair has been changed back to Erie County Fair and Fairgrounds Gaming is now called Hamburg Casino.
Thank you to The Fairgrounds, home of America's Fair, the Erie County Fair, for permission to place the cache.
Note: The cache itself is not intended to be removed from its location. Please just remove the log.
