The Long Lost Road Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Lignite: All good things... The Old Man has been removed from the site by what I assume is the Dept. of Interior. I saw new National Forest boundary signs today. I'm not sure why they would remove 1940s era guardrail posts but it seems that most of them along the Long Lost Road are now gone.

Thanks to all who have visited The Long Lost Road! :)

Geocache Description:

This cache is on the old US-460 right-of-way, near Pandapus Pond.

When the current US-460 was constructed, this old road was abandoned but not removed. Park at the first Pandapas Pond parking lot (Bike and Horse Trail Parking). To get to the Long Lost Road, it is necessary to bushwhack through the forest. Total distance from parking lot to cache is .75 miles. The hike through the woods takes about 18 minutes, plus an additional 7 minutes along the Lost Road to the cache. There are several gullies between the parking lot and the Lost Road, but they are easily crossed. While hiking through the forest, you'll probably see a few deer, and with luck you'll find one of their trails to follow. The road is still paved, but in places is covered with fallen leaves, stones, branches, and a downed tree. The highway markings are still visible at some points.

DO NOT try to access this cache from the current US-460 alignment!!!! Traffic is too dangerous and the terrain is too difficult! Please go to the Pandapus Pond Bike and Horse Trail Parking Lot.

The cache is an Everest gum tin, about 2x3 inches, covered with green duct tape. When placed, it contained two dice, a George Washington dollar coin, and the log. One or two addition small coin-sized items may yet fit in the cache. BYOP.
