Filey - Parish Wood Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

aitchebee: Have been to look and this has disappeared and the area compromised by an extra dog walkers cut through having evolved right over the cache site. Amazing how an area can change just over a few months. It must be time for this to go.

Geocache Description:

An interesting part of Filey that most people on a day to the seaside may miss. This multi will take you through the Parish Wood and on to the Old Tip site.

The Parish Wood was first planted in 1996, you can read about its history and current management at (visit link) where you will also find details of a good circular walk. If you visit in the summer be sure to look at the planting in the meadow beyond the old tip site. These are plants which will generally attract birds and have included sunflowers and linseed in the past. There are often sightings of rare birds here.

Suggest on street parking where Sycamore Avenue meets Fir Tree Drive at N54.13.006 W000.17.784, this is regularly used by dog walkers. Please clean up after your dog on this walk. There are bins placed at the entrance. It can be muddy here after rain.

The above coordinates will take you to a memorial to two local youngsters who lost their lives in separate tragic incidents. Here you will find John’s date of birth AB.CD.EFGH. To locate the cache you need to go to the following coordinates

N54. EH. (B-A-C)(C-D)E
W000. EG. GFA

Having found the cache it is well worth going on to the cliff edge.

PLEASE HANG ON TO CHILDREN AND DOGS AS THESE ARE HIGH UNPROTECTED CLIFFS. There is a view to the north to Scarborough and south to Flamborough Head. With the help of a map it is possible to make a circular walk towards Filey, or for a shorter circular walk, turn left, and return on the public footpath and back through the streets to the car.

The cache is a small lock and lock box with a logbook and pencil and a few small swaps.
