Geocache Description:

This site is on a beautiful stretch of Route 23A, just below the highly trafficked Kaaterskill Falls hiking trail.

I placed this cache to commemorate the 40th Anniversary Conference of the New York State Outdoor Education Association, held at Hunter Mountain November 2-3, 2007. Knowing that the conference is full of outdoorspeople, I chose this beautiful mountain spot as a potential jumping off place for a half-day hike.

NOTE - this cache is a magnetic keyholder micro - there's a log book, but you must bring your own pen! You cannot see the cache - you will have to feel for it. The parking area is in the same location as the cache, just a small "pull over" spot next to the narrow, winding highway.

The GPS bounces all over the place in this canyon-like location, so I've given a very specific clue. Please be sure to replace the cache exactly where you found it, so the encrypted hint still works. Thank you!

If you have a few hours, there is a spectacular hike (with additional geocaches) less than a half mile up (uphill, traveling west on Rt. 23A), at the historic Kaaterskill Falls. Keep in mind that this hike will be challenging - steep, slippery, and potentially dangerous, if you're not wearing hiking shoes.
