Geocache Description:


Some people have parks or buildings names after them; other people have lesser monuments.

This is a simple offset cache with a hopefully amusing name.

Very close to where John Montgomery stands is a fire hydrant. On the side of the hydrant closest to John, near the ground (below the word CLOW) is a three-digit number. The same three digits (with a leading zero) appear above the "OW" of CLOW. Let X = hundreds digit and Y = tens digit.

A = Y - 3
B = Y
C = X
D = X - 4

The cache is at N 37°49.9AB, W 122°14.9CD (approx distance 0.2 miles).

It is a typical hide: a log-only magnetic micro. Bring your own pen.

For historical reference only, when I placed this cache it referred to a City of Oakland survey marker in the sidewalk, eight feet almost exactly due north from where John Montgomery stands. There was a two-digit number stamped on the marker. The marker was removed due to reconstruction/repair of the sidewalk. At that time, the calculations were: Let X = tens digit and Y = ones digit, and: A = Y - 1; B = X; C = X + Y; D = X - 1
