Geocache Description:

The mystery of Ma Ballou

This scenic pointe on Lake Lawtonka was named for Ma Ballou. There are many Ballous residing in this area but none of the ones I have met could tell me who Ma Ballou was and why this area was named for her.

If you find out, please let me know. Rumor is that she was related to Cat Ballou.

The hardest part of this multi cache will be finding a parking spot during fishing season.

Blaidd-Drwg provided "the rest of the story. I happen to work with a member of the Ballou family. Today, when I had a chance I asked her about Ma Ballou point. She smiled and provided the following information. Ma Ballou ran the 'Old Damn Cafe' in Medicine Park during the depression and the crews from either the Civilian Conservation Corps or the Work Projects Administration were building the road. Every day at lunch time, she would serve them. The workers named the point in her honor. The family over the years has assumed responsibility for maintaining the sign. There is suppose to be a picture of the cafe in the Sonic just off of I44. And now you know the rest of the story."
