Known as Beardsley Bar, this area has now been dubbed Keizer Rapids
park. Incedently, there are no rapids to be found in the river
nearby. (and the cache will not be found at the listed coordinates)
Growing up, I would come to visit my cousins here and we'd go to
Beardsley Bar to go hunting, fishing, and farting around. In the
those days the only legal access was by boat and the only trails
were those created by nearby honyocks (my cousins and I) riding
their dirtbikes through the trees. Interestingly, those same
dirtbike trails have now been adopted by the city, and they covered
them with wood chips and labeled them "nature trails." You'll walk
on them as you go throughout the park.
One evening in 2003 right by the river here, I proposed to Mrs.
Candum. I set up a whole romantic setting with torches, a bonfire,
and some sparkling cider. The whole thing was pretty swashbuckling
if I do say so myself. Well, she fell for it anyway.
------------
about the area: the 7.8 acres of riparian forest is adjacent to and
connected to substantial riparian forest on the beardsley bar Land
area. this portion of property is described as being Undeveloped
riparian flood plain characterized by a Mixed-species riparian
forest. the topography of this flood Plain is hummocky and changes
slighty from Year to year with flooding. it mainly consists of
alluvial Terraces and historic backwater channels. the area's River
frontage has a steep riverside bank, with a slope of 65% and
greater. dominant tree species include black cottonwoods and big
leaf maple. white alder and Even a few douglas fir are also present
on the site. this area was logged approximately 50 years ago and
conifer stumps suggest that conifers were once more present on the
site. there is also a diversity of native shrub species and
herbaceous ground cover. invasive species, such as blackberry and
reed canary grass are present on the Eastern boundary of the
riparian forest. ------------
The river can get pretty high at times so we've attempted to anchor
the cache in place. FACT: the ammo can used for this cache was
actually used by Mr. Candum in Iraq a few years ago. If you haven't
found GC156AB yet, you should solve that one really quick and you
can get them both within five minutes.
UPDATE 5/2010: The Keizer Police mistook this
cache as a bomb for some reason. Thanks to Hrethgir for putting the
cache back together for us since we are out of state now. See the
photos provided by Hrethgir.
