Cache is hidden in an area in southern NJ where a flourishing cranberry cannery once thrived. The remains of the cannery buildings are not too far away. The waypoint below has the coordinates for parking near the old buildings on Weatherby Road. Walking to the buildings from the cache site is not recommended. It is too wet and too far to go on foot.
A series of bogs with interconnecting dikes and roads was here. You will walk on one of the dikes on your way to the cache. If you go out to the end of the dike/road, you will see the waterway. The day we were there was not long after some heavy rains and we could hear the water rushing downstream to the Tuckahoe River. At other times, as the satellite photos reveal, this area is almost dry.
Did you know that before a berry makes its way into an Ocean Spray product it must first pass an inspection process that includes the berry’s ability to bounce? Apparently, the importance of this unusual criterion was established by an early New Jersey cranberry farmer, John "Peg-Leg" Webb, whose observations led to the development of a bounceboard separator designed to help identify and remove damaged or otherwise inferior berries from the rest of the harvested crop.
