Geocache Description:

Located over 3/4 of the way up the backside of Flattop.

This is the most frequently climbed mountain in Alaska and probably the most frequently hiked trail. Although it is over 1000ft elevation gain it is a common family hike with some brave and strong locals climbing Flattop daily as part of their exercise. A definate 'must' for anyone visiting Anchorage.

There are two common approaches to the top - the cache is located from the 'backside' but it can be easily accessed by going up and over from the main parking area.

Head uphill on O'malley rd to Hillside. Take a right on Hillside and comtinue to Upper Hufman road. Signs guide you most of the way. This is hike 29 from '55 ways..' Word of caution: the weather changes rapidly on the mountains and as benign of a peak as it may seem - someone inevitably gets hurt or killed every winter because of Avalanches.
