After noticing a complete absence of
any back country Hip Hop themed caches we decided it was time to
change that with YOasis. Molly blinged up the inside of the
container and iced up some happening stuff to fill it with. Lots of
good stuff for kids and connoisseurs of tacky
stuff.
I've wanted to place our first cache
here ever since I started caching. We have spent a lot of time up
this canyon rock climbing and then bringing friends to this cool
place. Milagrosa Canyon is also known as 5.11 Heaven, referring to
all the great climbs in the canyon. If you encounter any climbers
please don't feed them. Also, try not to step on their ropes that
will probably be in the middle of the trail. Since their lives
sometime depend on them, they can get a little cranky when you
grind grit and small sharp rocks into their ropes.
Most people turn around when they encounter the small obstacle
after the trail ends, but those who don't are rewarded with a real
treat. We started calling this the Oasis years ago when we first
stumbled across it, because at the time there was a huge beautiful
cottonwood shading a very nice pool. You can still see the
cottonwood, but it somehow lost some of it's glory after being
uprooted and washed over a waterfall. There is a small bit of
climbing required, but I brought my son Tristan up the first time
when he was about 1 and riding on my back in a pack, so it's not
that bad. We decided to make this cache kid friendly, because I
think it is a great place to bring friends and family. It was a
tough decision, because I could have easily made the difficulty a
4.5 just by heading up stream a bit more.

For a really special view, follow the trail on the north side of
the canyon up, and you can drop down into a really neat small
canyon. You should probably leave the smaller ones behind because
the potential for a long fall is a distinct possibility for hyper
kids not paying attention. This place is really spectacular when
the water is running, but it is a great place to visit any time of
the year, especially during the cooler winter months. Hope you
enjoy it.
