Geocache Description:

A gentle walk to a steep climb to a great view.

We had walked down part of this old road before but this time we went from end to end and decided it needed a cache or two. It is located at the site of an old quarry that they are trying to dress up with some tree planting. To get to cache site get off I-84 at the Rowena exit and then head west on the road up to Rowena Crest. Go 1 mile up the road and there will be a turn off to the right with a gate across the road. Park the vehicle and head down the hill. The main road bed is a nice gentle slope but this cache is located up a bank and then up a hill. About 100 yds after you go past the quarry pit on your left the GPS should start pointing up to the left. There is steepish game trail heading up the hill. It is pretty sandy dirt so climb carefully. Once you get up on top follow your GPS and one of several game trails towards another short but steepish climb up to the cache site. If you take the right game trail you will go past a poor little pine tree that is just about rubbed into oblivion. There is some poison oak towards the top but it is pretty easy to get around. If it is snowy or icey be extra careful. There is a nice view from the cache site but if you want a bit of adrenalin rush you can walk along the ridge towards the oak tree. Enjoy the view and be careful coming back down. I would leave the little kids home for this one unless they are good climbers.
