Beautiful Carl Shurz Park on Manhattan's Upper East Side. Be sure to check out the walking, running and cycling path along the East River at the top of the stairs. Very pretty little park with a dog run, pretty views of river, lots of benches, grassy areas, flowers, basketball courts and a playground.
Directions: Short walk from the Lexington Ave subway 4,5,6 trains at 86th Street or take 86th Street crosstown bus.
Small clear plastic container in a zip lock bag. I enclosed a tiny purple pen for use with the log, but it frequently goes missing, so you may want to bring a pen to log your visit.
This cache contains only a log book, but will fit a travel bug and some very very tiny items.
If you are as far as the dog run, you've gone too far! The difficulty is mostly in being stealth in this frequently visited park. The find is more difficult in the past year as a lot of park landscaping has been done since it was first hidden. I believe that's why it's been a while since the last find was logged. There are two entries in the log book over the past year, but they did not place a log online, so it can still be found, it just takes a bit more patience as it is not as obvious anymore. As a result of the number of did not finds, I have increased the difficulty from 1.5 to 3 and added another 2 encrypted hints/spoilers.
Warning - lots of dog walkers and muggles, especially in the nice weather!!!
Be sure to check out the view of the East River and nearby Gracie Mansion and take a stroll along the River promenade or bring a picnic and enjoy sitting on the grass or one of the many benches.
