This is the newest addition to my Cache to Eagle Series. This series takes you to the service projects that Eagle Scout Candidates have done for the community.
Upon being awarded the rank of Eagle Scout (this supreme rank is awarded, not earned by the way), the new Eagle Scout is asked to make this pledge at his Eagle Scout Court of Honor:
I reaffirm my allegiance to the three promises of the Scout Oath.
I thoughtfully recognize and take upon myself the obligations and responsibilities of an Eagle Scout.
On my honor, I will do my best to make my training and example and my status and my influence count strongly for better Scouting and for better citizenship in my troop,
in my community, and in my contacts with other people.
To this I pledge my sacred honor.
This particular location highlights two Eagle Scout Service Projects that two brothers from Troop 583 have done. The first project is right around the corner. The Eagle Scout refurbished the beautiful copper sign on the north side of the church.
This cache takes you to the second project. Two brothers who belonged to this church were killed in action months apart. This flagpole and surrounding plantings were dedicated to them. The two Pine trees are planted in their honor. This flagpole area was in a state of disrepair and the Eagle Scout candidate constructed the raised platform, benches, and plantings. This geocacher assisted.
The benefit of helping a Scout work on his project, is you can talk him into letting you build your geocache right into the project.
