Geocache Description:

The Canadian Salt pixie is a critically endangered indigenous winged mammal living only in a few spots along the southern coasts of Lake Simcoe.

Many think that pixies are blind when in fact they can see quite well. Their remarkable sense of smell makes them incredible night hunters. When a pixie hunts at night, it emits gastric fume pulses produced in a special organ located near the esophagus called the pixodephelon. These fumes, which come from the throat or nose, stick to nearby feathers and return to the pixies nose as a homing scent.

The Prey of the Salt pixie is primarily Canadian goose(Branta canadensis), but they have been known to attack ducks, swans, and seagulls as well. During the winter months, the prey species migrate south, and leave the salt pixies without an ample food supply, so they have adapted to digesting the large salt deposits left by winter de-icing trucks, which is how the species got it's name!

Keep your eyes and mind open, as only those who are willing to accept them will be able to see them!
