This is a great tramping cache, and you can do it two ways its
up to you. If want the Wise or Wild Way. Make your choice at
S 36° 50.758 E 174° 28.415 here will
find a sign.
Wild Way
Pick the Mokoroa Falls track, once at the falls head towards
S 36° 50.843 E 174° 27.316 by
following the stream down.
I would then recommend you use the Goldies bush track to get
back to the carpark. Or if you prefer backtrack and walk back from
the Falls.
The wild way is the most scenic way but does involved some
danagous situations, including Rock scrambling and multiple river
crossings.
Wise Way
The other route which is much easier is the Goldies Bush track,
which slowly goes down to the same point. This has less river
crossings and no Rock climbing is required.
General advice for both ways
Cell phone coverage in this area is non-exitent until you get to
the car park, so don't rely on it. And Please remember to tell
someone reliable where you are going and when you are expected
back. I wouldn't recommend doing this at night.
Do not attempt either Way when heavy rain is likely or has
fallen, expect to get wet feet whatever the weather. Sections of
the track can be very slippery. I have bruises from the day I
placed the cache.
When the cache was placed, I walked from the carpark to cache
site using the Goldies Bush Track, placed the cache and then went
up the stream to the Mokoroa Falls. From the Falls I took the
Mokoroa track back to the carpark. The whole thing took me 3 hours,
this was with stopping and looking for possible cache locations as
one does.
Please state in your online logs if you were wild or wise, we
hope you enjoy this cache. But please be careful, no cache is worth
risking your life.
Please remember Let someone know before you
go.
