Geocache Description:

Camoed cylinder just off the road near the site of an historic mill.

Long ago there was a mill near here. The road is named after it. The actual mill site is on the bank of the Trinity, on private property. You can see it if you walk over to the bridge and look west (if you do, be VERY careful of traffic and keep a tight rein on any kids).
Please close the lid tightly.

The mill site had a Texas Historical Marker, but it was stolen or destroyed by vandals. The text of the marker read as follows:
"In 1856 Archibald F. Leonard (1816-1876) built a dam and grain mill at this site. Hiram Crowley became a partner. The mill became a community center and county voting place. During widespread abolition violence in 1860, Leonard's Mill was burned. It reopened by 1862 and operated during the Civil War. Owners after 1867 were H.B. Alverson and J.H. Wheeler. In 1876 R.A. (Bob) Randol (1850-1922) acquired Wheeler's Mill. A water-driven turbine powered the mill, a circular saw,and a cotton gin. Randol Mill played an important role in the area economy and closed after Randol's death."
Randol also donated space not far away for a cemetery: Harrison Cemetery and there's a geocache there as well: GC10NGC
oordinates averaged using a Garmin GPSmap 60Cx with WAAS on. Accuracy reported to be 13'.

Congratulations to Abrimberry (with Vigilnte and DTHumphreys) for FTF!
Update Spring 2008: LOTS of Poison Ivy. Please be careful.
Also, there was some gas well construction in the area, so watch out for that, even though they've moved all their equipment.
Update Spring 2009: Apparently there are bees. And Poison Ivy. And the possibility of construction.
