Geocache Description:

This, my first cache, is in the form of an ammo box and as the title suggests is hidden near Shawbury Moat.

Shawbury Moat is one of the finest examples in Shropshire of a medieval moated site. Moated sites date mainly from the 13th to 15th centuries and were primarily domestic rather than defensive in character. Most would have originally comprised a homestead surrounded by a water-filled ditch.

Shawbury Moat, just south of Morton Corbett Castle, is rectangular in shape and, although officially dry, water can still be seen in the remains. There is an original causewayed entrance on the west side.
