“TESSIE”

The original version of "Tessie “ was written by Will R. Anderson and was featured in the Broadway musical The Silver Slipper, which ran October 1902 to March 1903. The song was about a woman singing to her beloved parakeet "Tessie".

The song gained greater notoriety when it was adopted as a rallying cry by the Royal Rooters, a group of loyal fans led by Michael T. McGreevey, informally known as "Nuf Ced" McGreevey, the owner of the 3rd Base saloon. McGreevey earned his nickname "Nuf Ced" due to the way he kept peace in his bar: when he grew frustrated with arguments over the Red Sox and the Boston Braves, he would pound his hand on the bar and declare "'Nuff said”.

Boston was down 1-3 to the Pittsburgh Pirates after the first four games of the 1903 World Series. The Royal Rooters began rallying their team with every song they could think of, and ultimately "Tessie" helped win the day.
Boston won Game 5 and went on to win Games 6, 7, and 8 to win the series 5–3, as it was a nine games series back then. The chorus to the original "Tessie" goes:

Tessie, you make me feel so badly.
Why don't you turn around?
Tessie, you know I love you madly.
Babe, my heart weighs about a pound.
Don't blame me if I ever doubt you,
You know I wouldn't live without you.
Tessie, you are the only, only, only.

The Rooters stopped singing in 1918. The Red Sox won the World Series in 1918 but then endured an 86-year drought before winning again in 2004, the same year a re-release of "Tessie" was issued by the Droplick Murphys. The re-release chorus goes:

Tessie, Nuff Ced McGreevey shouted,
We're not here to mess around
Boston, you know we love you madly
Hear the crowd roar to your sound
Don't blame us if we ever doubt you
You know we couldn't live without you
Tessie, you are the only, only, only

Thank You to the Dropkick Murphys for making us all Royal Rooters and bringing home two more World Series.

Horse Hill Nature Preserve

I’ve lived next to it for many years, it is a wonderful place to go and observe nature throughout the year. From free roaming turkeys to deer, and many types of birds, though some you may have to search real hard for. One could spend days traversing the preserve and studying the habitat and land, there is so much in here. I won’t tell it all, for that is for you to seek out and enjoy.

The site HHNP.ORG has much information and many links describing the trails, and more importantly the history of this preserve, the land, the habitat, as well as the master plan. I have seen it progress quickly and nicely over the past 2 years. Thanks to all those involved!

Hunting is allowed in here so use caution and wear ORANGE during hunting season! Also ticks are a plenty in some areas, especially off trail.
