Rainwater Runoff Rumba Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Ngaambul: As there's been no cache to find or log to sign for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

Wingham Landcare group has not only beautified the stormwater drainage of 80ha of Wingham with the ‘Wetlands Project’, but it has made a practical contribution by decreasing the amount of pollution and sediment entering the Manning River. The regular sized cache is beside the last settling pond.

Starting in December ’99 and finishing in June 2000, the Landcare workers were able to place a series of filters, energy dissipaters, and settling ponds in the course of the rainwater to reduce the bioburden entering Cedar Party Creek and the Manning River. The project cost approximately $220,000 from State and Local Government funding.

Parking is available in Mortimer or Primrose Streets. As an interesting aside, find a plaque on the Primrose Street kerb, near S31° 52.000’ E152° 22.342’ which indicates the height the river got to in one of the local floods (a clue for GC172A9 – WP2). This would be a few metres over the settling ponds.

There is an informative interpretive sign on the corner of Primrose and Combined Streets.

Hope you don’t get your feet wet!
