40 Acres: Human-Environment Interaction. How is Man changing the
face of Lafayette Parish? Through the use of modern equipment, man
has alerted the landscape. The terrain is easy to navigate to the

40 Acres – Human Environment Interaction
In 1984 the American Association of Geographers published
“Guidelines for Geographic Education and Secondary Schools”
(Available at Amazon.com). This publication, also known as the
“five themes of geography”, laid the foundation for geography’s
revival in the K-12 school. One of these themes, “Human-Environment
Interaction”, is evident in this tribute to a central Texas school.
At this EarthCache, learn how humans modify and depend on the
environment.
40 Acres, located north of Lafayette Louisiana, will have you
examining how building materials are recovered and transferred from
place to place. In this location, man has altered the landscape to
harvest topsoil, field sand, and wash sand. Located on 40 acres in
Lafayette Parish, this sand and rock pit has been in operation for
two years and is expected to last another eight years.
