Geocache Description:

Fairly short hike on mowed terrain. You are searching for a cammo tape wrapped M&M container.

Eagle Point Banner Creek Reservoir is a cooperative venture between the City of Holton, the Rural Water District and the County to provide drinking water and recreational use for the surrounding area. There are over 12 miles of hiking trails including 3 which are handicap accessible. The theme of this cache is wildlife. When you arrive at the waypoint, you can see a Eagle nest. The framework was built as a part of an Eagle Scout project to your SE. SInce it's original construction, it is in it's second year of having eagles finishing it and now has a nesting pair. Please be extremely considerate of them and enjoy their beauty from afar. As I was placing the cache, there was one lone eagle “fishing” in the lake. Prime viewing is generally from November to March for the eagles. From the waypoint, you will need to go: Southeast 160 degrees for 165 feet. If you don't have a compass, sight from the waypoint to the Eagle Nest and it is within about 5 degrees of that sight line. **UPDATE, 01/14/2015: There are many online tools now available that can quickly calculate the projection for you, both at home and in the field, including the GPSr you will likely have in your hand when you arrive at the posted coordinates.** You will need to have a pencil or pen. In the very unlikely event that the water is too high to prevent access, I will trust you for a find. Parking is readily available at no charge at the Boy Scout camping area, and there is a vault toilet. If you want to actually enter the park at the Main North entrance or South with a vehicle, there is a $3 day pass charge. All hiking trails are open at no charge. Special thanks to the Lake Manager, Gary Keehn for his permission and enthusiastic help in placing the caches. PS, I haven't checked it in a while, but it seems someone placed a "bogus" cache at the coordinate points. Perhaps thinking the original had been muggled. That makes two at the location, first original which is a projection and now the "replacement" which is apparently an attempt at a good deed. I guess either counts. So have fun! I have been tickled that so many have had the pleasure of seeing an eagle.
