Pyap West is now only an historic site whereas once it was the social centre for the local pioneer farming community.
In 1913 a hall was built on this site on land given for this purpose for one Joeseph Leaker. The hall was built of a timber frame clad in galvanised iron. It was used as a school and for many social activities including meals, dances and church services. An oval nearby was used for sporting events such as cricket and football matches. After the school closed in 1949 use of the facilities declined and the hall was eventually demolished. In the cache are copies of pages from Bruce Rofe’s book Bayah ‘Before and Beyond’ that describe some of the early history of Pyap West.
