Geocache Description:

Permission was granted to place this cache in Elmore State Park. Go here for more information: (visit link)

I had first titled this cache “Balancing Rock” because it is hidden very close to one. I then discovered that there is already a cache labeled that in VT. Disregard that the container says “Balancing Rock” on the lid. This cache will bring you to the top of Elmore Mountain where you will enjoy some fantastic views. The hike is about 1.75 miles each way. Yet, you may have to hike farther than that if it is off season and the gate is closed. And during the “Open” season you will be required to pay a small entry fee. There is a lookout fire tower that you can climb at the top. Once at the top of the mountain you will continue for another ½ mile to the cache. Continue a little farther to the Western Vista and then onto Balancing Rock. Stay on the path until you are about 125 feet from the cache. There is some very beautiful and fragile moss and lichen at the top. I spent a good deal of time finding an area where the search will not bring you close to any fragile areas. No hunting is permitted there so you can hike without that concern. The container is a clear lock n lock. During the winter this cache could easily be a 5 star in terrain difficulty due to ice and snow. So, plan accordingly. Enjoy!
