Geocache Description:

The posted coordinates will only get you to the entrance of one of Seattle finest parks!

One of my interests is NOAA’s National Weather Radio service. Here in Seattle, our lives are rarely threatened by the weather. In other areas of our country, especially in the Midwest's “Tornado Alley”, lives are saved every year with this service.

If you’re interested in solving this easy puzzle and learning a little about the NWR (NOAA Weather Radio), then here are a few questions to research!

The Mark Trail comic strip character serves as the spokesman for the NOAA Weather Radio Program. The Mark Trail Award recognizes individuals and companies who made extraordinary efforts to promote safety through NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards. How many recipients were there for the “2007 Mark Trail Award? Let this = AB [The answer is 15, the information is no longer retrievable from the interweb].

Under a January, XXXX, White House policy statement, NOAA Weather Radio was designated the sole Government-operated radio system to provide direct warning into private homes for both natural disasters and nuclear attack. Let the year of this statement = CDEF

NOAA is operating XXXX transmitters across the United States and its territories. Add 250 to the number you find here: NOAA Weather Radio Frequently Asked Questions Let this = GHIJ

If you buy a Weather Radio, be sure to get one with “SAME” technology. SAME, or Specific Alert Message Encoding allows you to specify the particular area for which you wish to receive alerts. Most warnings and watches broadcast over NOAA Weather Radio are county based. What is the SAME code for King County? Let this = KLMNOP

How many NWR transmitters are there in Washington State? Let this = QR

These transmitters operate on different frequencies. How many different frequencies are used in Washington State? (For this answer, use the brochure in the "NOAA Brochure" link.) Let this = S

The Washington transmitters send out their signal with wattages varying from 50 to 330 watts. The transmitter for Seattle, KHB60 @ 162.55 MHz, operates at how many watts? Let this = TUV [information no longer available, answer is 100 watts]

To determine the final coordinates, add the following minutes (0.XXX) to the posted coordinates:

N: 0.(D-E+C)(H+8)(S+1)

W: 0.AM(Q-T)

You can check your answers for this puzzle on Geochecker.com.

Most of the anwsers can be found here: NOAA Brochure
