Folkes Lane Woodland #3
We are in Folkes
Lane Woodland near Upminster. Folkes
Lane Woodland is part of the Thames Chase Community Forest.
An info leaflet from the Thames Chase web site covering this and
adjacent bits of green can be found here.
The area provides hard surfaced / accessible
path to many areas, however to collect all the caches in this set
to get the bonus you will walk into the surrounding area as well as
the Wood so this series can not be considered fully accessible
throughout.
The area seems fairly quiet, I’ve only
seen the odd dog walker when I’ve been here and frequently
I’ve had the area entirely to myself.
The parking area is open as you would expect,
the gates are locked around dusk, but the forest itself is open all
hours.
Please note that that the only car access is
via Folkes Lane from the eastbound A127, the turning is just
before the M25 junction (the cranham.co.uk notice on the opposite
carriageway is more or less opposite the turning).
Park at N 51 34.942 E 00 16.513 – check
the closing time if you’re coming late.
A suggested path around the caches can be found
in Google
Earth or
Google Maps format (just click the link of your
choice).
The cache
A small 0.45l clip lock type box is what
you’re looking for.
Original contents are on a party
theme.
If approaching this one from #2 make sure you do not go into the farm yard once you
go through the gate after collecting this cache. The foot path goes
along the boundary of the farm yard i.e. straight ahead. So go
through the gate on the RHS then follow the path along to
Tomkyns Lane.
Getting through the first gate might be a little tricky.
If you’re carrying on to #4, once
you’ve joined the road (Tomkyns
Lane) turn left (down hill) walk down past the farms and houses
until you pass 1 Grays Cottage. Just
before the road turns sharply right and warning to “Slow Down
for Fox Sake” can be seen, you should turn left onto Foot
path146 (Beredens Lane) at N 51 34.802
E 00 15.901, the entrance is clearly marked. Follow FP146 /
Beredens Lane along the side of the various fields until you
encounter the next cache.
The cache stash note has a letter/number to
collect, write this down as you will need this for the
bonus cache.
