Geocache Description:

On April 12, 1539 Frey Marcos De Niza entered Arizona in this, The San Rafael Valley. The First European west of the Rockies. This is a monument to him.

In the Valley of San Rafael, Frey Marcos De Niza, Vice commissory of the Franciscan Order, and Delegate of the Vicroy in Mexico, Entered Arizona. The First European west of the Rockies, April 12, 1539. This is a drive to, short easy walk to Kid friendly Cache. There is a log book and many "goodies". 1/2 Mile to the south is the Town of Lochiel, on the Mexican border. A good History lesson about our part of the country. It is a wonderful drive down a Beautiful Valley to this spot. Rolling Grasslands, beautiful mountains in the distance. No wonder so many movies, Like Oklahoma and McClintock were made in this area.
