Worth the Climb Traditional Cache

A nice climb up Mt. Kurokami will get you near the cache. Not for the faint of heart, this one will make you work for it. Please be prepared for about 60-90 minutes of hiking. Bring plenty of water and don't attempt this unless you have lots of daylight as the trail has some challenging places you don't want to try at dusk or worse, at night.
UPDATE: Those who may have been scared off because of the climb will be glad to know that there is a second less strenuous way to get here. Follow the directions to shrine overlook cache. From there, follow the signs (in Japanese) to the top of Mt. Kurokami. The climb will take you about 30-45 minutes. There are some steep areas but there are ladder-like holds placed in these areas.

The best parking area is located near Arita Dam. There is a little park here with some camping platforms, some cooking pavilions and a nice field. There are lots of trails you can explore too. From the parking lot, follow the paved road to the right and up the hill. Soon the road will turn to a rocky dirt road. At the end of the road is a well marked trail. Just follow it up to Mt Kurokami (signs are in both Japanese and English. At the top you can climb some large boulders to see some stunning views of the Arita and Imari areas. The cache is not located on these boulders. Its too dangerous to be searching up there for it. Its in a much safer place. Please note that many Japanese hiking groups come to this area so you may need to use some stealth in retrieving and replacing the cache. The Scouts of Troop 76 hiked up here with me and they named the cache after I asked them if it was worth coming up here. The cache is in a plastic cylinder with a light blue top.
