Geocache Description:

Next to a public footpath in woodland.

Houghton Moor lies between the villages of Sancton to the north and Hotham to the south. Forming part of the Houghton Hall estate much of it is covered by a mixed woodland plantation. It is crossed by a couple of public rights of way and the cache is located on one of these.

There are a number of possible routes to the cache, the easiest of which being to approach from the north. There is very limited parking on the single track lane that runs west from Sancton (see Waypoint 1). Please take care not to block the passing place. We tend to park in Sancton and walk west along the lane before taking the footpath to the south, and this gives a round trip of about 2.5 miles / 4km. There are a few gates if approaching from the north and the footpath can be muddy after heavy rain.

The cache is a standard 500ml Lock & Lock container.

PS - when looking at the location on an OS map (e.g. on Streetmap) the dotted line next to the cache represents the path of a Roman road and not an ugly overhead power line!
