This is one of two caches located in the Dardanelle Rock Natural
Area. This 10 acre area is provided by the Arkansas Natural
Heritage Commission. Park at the sign below. This is the ONLY
approved entrance.
Neither of the two caches is located on the point of the rock
overlooking the river. Instead these two caches will hopefully get
you to the top via the only safe route, log some finds and then
explore the point of the rock on your own. It is a short scramble
to the east from where you reach the top of the mountain. Both
caches are to the west. You will see a lot of graffiti on the way
up and also on top. You will go by an old abandoned water tank. I
am unsure when this was built and if this is the one that received
water from the spring on Jones Mountain to the west. The tank has a
curious gash in the east side. At the point and on the way to the
caches you will see several vantage points to view the dam, the
city, the river, the bridge, etc. The point itself allows a
spectacular view in all directions but the west. The parking area
but it is less than 200 feet from the point of the rock (check your
gps). If you look on the rock during your scramble up the trail,
you will see at least 5 climbing routes as evidenced by the
permanent links in the rock. I have known about this place for a
long time but have been slow to place caches here for the fear of
someone getting hurt while searching. I solved that problem by
keeping the caches away from any dangerous precipice. This cache is
just past an area of interesting rock formations. This area reminds
me of the rocks near the Panorama Cache to the west and some of the
more popular areas on Petit Jean. From this are can see to both the
north and south. The container is a little larger than a 35 mm film
canister. Please take care to close it properly and place it back
as you found it. The picture and hint are spoilers. Please log any
wildlife or muggle encounters, especially rock climbers.
TWO FINAL POINTS: DON'T FORGET YOUR CAMERA IF YOU PLAN ON
EXPLORING THE POINT!!
PARK ONLY AT THE COORDINATES BELOW NEAR THE NATURAL AREA SIGN AND
USE THE TRAIL!!
