This cache takes you to the outskirts of the lovely village of
Anogyra, a nice little place full of character with plenty of
interest for locals and tourists alike.
The Monastery of the Holy Cross is your destination, a medieval
Byzantine building set amongst carob and almond trees at the
entrance of the village. The cells of the Monastery are in ruins
but it is still possible to explore the interior of the painted
church. One of the crosses of this monastery now resides at the
famous and larger Monastery of the Holy Cross at Omodos.
You will be looking for a small box, but you may be lucky and
find untold riches: it is said that the monks here were so wealthy,
they used to dine off silver plates using solid gold spoons.
Apparently, this stash of pricey crockery and cutlery is still
waiting to be discovered after it was hidden in a specially
constructed underground tunnel for
safe-keeping………………..
