Geocache Description:

A short walk which takes in part of the Laxey Heritage trail. Access is mostly easy walking, although it is a little steep in part.

Laxey Promenade was built in 1929 as part of a winter work scheme for former miners after the closure of the Laxey Mines.
Until recent years the TT's popular Honda gathering was held here and was one of the last events visited by the charismatic Joey Dunlop.
The promenade area is quite undeveloped and the bay offers a long stretch of sand and shingle beach and dozens of rock pools for exploration. During the summer months young people enjoy swimming out to the wooden raft shackled to the foreshore.
Perhaps the best views of this area are obtained by approaching from the sea. During the summer months the traditional m.v. Karina departs from Douglas for a cruise to Laxey harbour.

The cache is a camourflaged plastic box containing a FTF badge, Cool Dude geocoin, jesmas's Best of British geocoin, a log book and pencil and some nice swaps.
