Geocache Description:

The coordinates posted above are bogus. There is no geocache located there. You need to solve the puzzle below to obtain the true coordinates.

The M/V American Integrity is one of 13 "thousand footers" sailing the Great Lakes. At 1000 feet long and 105 feet wide, the ship can carry 78,850 tons of cargo. To move this massive vessel and her cargo across the lakes, four 3600-horsepower diesel engines are geared to two controllable-pitch propellers. The combined 14,400 HP drives the Integrity from the western end of Lake Superior to ports near Chicago or Detroit and back in a 5-day round trip, including time to load and discharge the cargo.

Merchant marine engineering officers (like, for example, la bandita boatchick) are jacks-of-all-trades responsible for the care and feeding of the shipboard machinery. From the most routine tasks like pumping bilge water or changing oil filters to slightly more complicated procedures like changing out faulty pistons on the main engines, most of the mechanical work is performed by engine room personnel. In addition to normal operational tasks and repair work, a lot of time is spent on preventive maintenance and routine inspections in the hopes of avoiding equipment failure. In the case of equipment failure, there is a flurry of activity, a bunch of cursing, and, with any luck, we are able to at least control the situation before it gets any worse.

During a recent scheduled inspection of the piston rings and fuel injectors on the port outboard main engine, after staring at the 20-cylinder engine for a long time, a puzzle began to take shape in my mind. Hurry up and get the coordinates before we sink!!

Stuff to know:

- There are five dummy digits in the puzzle, as the manufacturer did not see fit to build a 15-cylinder engine.
- Coordinates are in standard format.
- The port outboard main engine is a standard, left-hand rotation engine.
- Cylinders are numbered sequentially with number 1 as the forwardmost cylinder on the right bank of the vee, and number 20 as the aftmost cylinder on the left bank.
