The Louisiana Society of Professional
Surveyors (LSPS) is joining in the National
Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS) in placing
caches throughout the nation with an emphasis on the state of
Louisiana. These caches will feature GEOMATIC disciplines
such as Land Surveying and GIS. The intent of this project is
to encourage careers in the geomatics field of Professional
Surveying.
This is the first
Louisiana
Society of Professional Surveyors Geocache. It
was set as a convenient grab while traveling through
Louisiana
This Cache is located on the Louisiana
Meridian of the Public Land Survey System (PLSS). The
Louisiana Meridian is the major principal meridian for the state of
Louisiana and was established in 1807. (NOTE: If you look at the
"Geocaching.com Google Map" in the satelite view, you can see
visible evidence of the Township line approximately a half mile
north of the cache and a couple of miles south. This shows that not
all lines of ownership may be visible by fence line
evidence.)

Ranges are named
East and West from the Meridian line in the following manner:
R-1-W, R-2-W, etc. for ranges that are
West of this line and
R-1-E, R-2-E, etc. for ranges
that are East of the Meridian
line.
The cache is approximately located on the
Louisiana Meridian Line between Township Nine South, Range One
West: and Township Nine South, Range One East, hugging a tree that
is growing along the fence line south of the frontage road on the
south right of way line of Interstate 10. The image below
shows the approximate location along with the local information
regarding the Townships and Ranges of the area.

Bring a pen/pencil to sign the
log. During rains the shoulder ditch may fill with
water.
Congratulations
to GEOMACS on being First to Find
