Geocache Description:

If you're one of those people who enjoy the history of Route 66, you should enjoy this cache. It's located just off the original pavement of the old highway right near where it used to cross Lake Springfield.

The highway was given the name "mother road" by John Steinbeck in his book "The Grapes of Wrath." It's a highway celebrated in song, books and movies. Heck, it even had its own television show. (Does anyone remember the actors George Maharis and Martin Milner?)

You'll be driving on a portion of the old highway, and looking for a small (a little smaller than quart-sized) plastic drink container that is wrapped in camouflage tape. It's big enough for small travel bugs, and close to an Interstate 55 ramp, so it could be used as a bug hotel. Just keep in mind the container has a fairly small neck, so larger bugs won't fit inside. I started the cache with a log and a small travel bug and nothing else.

There is a business nearby and you pretty much have to drive through their area, and also some construction taking place fairly close to the cache. The area can be busy with muggles during the summer months, but should be pretty much isolated during colder months. But your final destination -- the cache -- is located where muggles shouldn't be a problem any time of the year.

There is little to no walking. You can basically drive right up to the cache (I'm lazy. I don't like to walk too far to place caches, so you don't have to walk far to retrieve them).

You don't really need a hint for the cache, but you can get a clue if you really need one. I'm not making it easy though. The hint is the same clue given by a couple of other geocaches. So if you need a hint, look one of these other caches up and read their hint. Have fun.
