Geocache Description:

The coordinates listed above are NOT the actual cache location!

So much information stares us in the face each and every day… but we can’t read it (and sometimes we can’t even see it)! Aaarrghhh!! For example, barcodes are machine readable representations of information. The first bar code was developed in 1948 by three graduate students at Drexel Institute of Technology. They filed for a U.S. PATENT in 1949 and it was granted in 1952. Its implementation was made possible through the work of two engineers at Sylvania as a result of their work on a system to identify railroad cars, which also received a U.S. PATENT. It was not until 1966 that barcodes were put to commercial use and they were not commercially successful until the 1980’s. Optical scanners and special software translate these “codes” for human use. Traditional barcodes represent only numbers. Newer barcode technologies represent the upper case alphabet, the complete ASCII character set, and more! More information has been encoded in the newer “matrix” codes (2D barcodes) made up of a grid of square cells and “stacked” barcodes in multiple rows. Three IBM engineers working in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina developed the UPC (Universal Product Code) in 1972. Since then it has been estimated that the “UPC Codes” on grocery products have saved the industry over $40 million! Much to our dismay the obvious price labels are rarely used any more. All of the information you need to find this cache is hidden in plain sight right here on this page. While the image below may look similar to a barcode it IS NOT. LOCATION HINTS: Look for a regular sized container hidden in plain sight among the bamboo on public property. No brush-wacking or hill climbing is necessary since the cache can be reached by walking and standing on pavement. If you find otherwise you are either in the WRONG location or are making the find more difficult than it needs to be (the best path to the cache is NOT necessarily a straight line). Please carefully restore the cache container and surroundings as found.
