Located in South Merrick. Park at the end of Merrick Avenue. Nice views of canal and East Bay.
Before the railroad came, the ocean was the main commerce route between Merrick and New York City. Packet boats went through Jones Inlet and up a channel along Whale Neck Point to a port near Merrick Road. During the War of 1812 this area was a headquarters for buccaneers because of the many canals, creeks and coves. They preyed upon local merchants and all American commerce. George Hewlett and some friends were robbed by pirates in whaleboats while on a duck hunt. They even stole the silver buttons from the men's coats. The Merokians fought back, going out with muskets and capturing a bandit leader, who was brought back to New York in chains.
Cache is a Lock 'N Lock with a collection of pirates and pirate booty. Get Back Jack Sparrow is waiting for someone to get him started on a trip back to the Caribbean. Signal Pin for FTF.
